Releasing Ceremony of ‘Kanali Volume-04′, the students’ magazine of Media Studies held on the 10th of August 2023 at the Library Auditorium of University of Jaffna.
‘Kanali’ is an outcome of the course units of ‘Newspaper Editing: Concepts and Processes’ (CMCH 22023) in the Level II of Media Studies. Volume 04 of ‘Kanali’ is the special edition of ‘Folk Media’ which comprises the articles, interviews, poems and illustrations of traditional folk art performances which are existing in the own areas of the students.
The ceremony was chaired by Ms.S.Poongulaly, Head, Department of Media Studies. Prof.S.Kannathasan, Dean, Graduate Studies and Acting Vice-Chancellor of University of Jaffna grace the occasion as the Chief Guest and Prof.S.Raguram, Dean, Faculty of Arts as the Special Guest. The event was coordinated by Mr. Dinesh Koduthor, Senior Lecturer, Media Studies.
The event was commenced with the traditional dance performance by the Students of Media Studies. The welcome address was delivered by Ms.B.Kirushika, Student of Media Studies. The chairperson note was given by Ms.S.Poongulaly, Head, Department of Media Studies and the special addresses were delivered by Prof.S.Raguram, Dean, Faculty of Arts and Prof.S.Kannathasan, Dean, Graduate Studies and Acting Vice-Chancellor of University of Jaffna.
The first issue was handed over by Prof.S.Raguram, Dean, Faculty of Arts to Prof.S.Kannathasan, Dean, Graduate Studies and Acting Vice-Chancellor of University of Jaffna. The special issues were present to the guests by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dean, Faculty of Arts and the Head, Department of Media Studies.
The wishes for the event was shared by Rev.Dr.Ruban Mariampillai, Director, Bishop Soundaram Media Center. The magazine was reviewed by Mr.J.Johnsan Rajkumar, Assistant Director, ‘Thirumarai Kala Mantram’ and In-Service Advisor (ISA), Jaffna Zonal Education and Dr.T.Selvamanoharan, Senior Lecturer, Department of Saiva Siddhanta, Faculty of Hindu Studies. The vote of thanks was given by Mr.S.Niroshan, Student of Media Studies.
The Dean of the Faculty of Hindu Studies, Librarian (Acting) – University of Jaffna, Deputy Registrar – Faculty of Arts, Heads and Staff of other Departments, Senior Journalists, Alumni of Media Studies and Students were also participated.
