The Opening of Dr. K. Indrapala Archaeological Museum
The opening ceremony of Dr. K. Indrapala Archaeological Museum at the University of Jaffna took place on May 24, 2023 at the Kailasapathy Auditorium. The ceremony commenced at 9.00 am with the lighting of the lamp. The Head of the History Department Mrs. Shanthini Arulanantham delivered the welcome speech. Following the Head’s speech, Retired Professor P. Pushparatnam gave an introductory note, highlighting the significance of the museum and its importance to Tamil society. This was followed by Professor S. Raguram delivering the Dean’s speech, expressing the faculty’s pride in the establishment of the museum. Prof.S.Srisatkunarajah, the Vice-chancellor of the University then delivered a keynote speech, emphasizing the importance of preserving and studying archaeological artefacts for the advancement of knowledge.
The Archaeological Museum’s webpage was officially launched, symbolizing its digital presence and accessibility. The program at the Kailasapathy Auditorium concluded with the vote of thanks given by Senior Lecturer Mrs. Sivaruby Sajitharan, expressing gratitude to all the personalities involved in making the museum a reality and thanking those who participated in the ceremony.
After the event concluded in the Auditorium the inauguration function began. Dr. K. Indrapala’s Archaeological Museum was inaugurated by Prof.S.Srisatkunarajah, the Vice-chancellor, University of Jaffna. The Laboratory of the Archaeological Museum was opened by senior Professor Dr. Noble Surendran. The Mini – Conference Room was inaugurated by Professor. S. Raguram, Dean of the Faculty of Arts.
